What Size Power Station Do I Need for Power Tools?
Power tools combine high startup loads with intermittent use, making them one of the most demanding applications for a portable power station. This page helps you understand the difference between running a tool directly and charging tool batteries, and how to size for each.
For running corded power tools directly, you need a station with at least 1,000–1,800 W of continuous output and surge capability of 1,600–3,000 W. For charging battery-powered tool packs, the requirements are much lower — 300–500 Wh with 200–300 W of output is often sufficient.

Cerințe tipice de putere
| Specificație | Interval tipic |
|---|---|
| Putere de funcționare (W) | 500–1800 W |
| Pornire (surge) | 1000–3000 W |
| Scenariu implicit de autonomie | 1h |
Acestea sunt intervale de planificare. Pentru cel mai precis rezultat, verifică eticheta aparatului sau specificația producătorului și introdu puterea reală în calculatorul de mai sus.
Considerente cheie
- Corded tools (circular saws, grinders, drills under load) have high startup surges — often 2–3× their running wattage. Your power station's surge/peak rating must handle this or it will trip on every trigger pull.
- Battery-powered tools with separate chargers are much easier on a power station. A tool battery charger draws 200–400 W with minimal surge, so you can use a much smaller station.
- Intermittent use means the actual energy consumed is much less than 'wattage × hours' suggests. A drill used in short bursts draws its rated wattage only while the trigger is held.
- Universal motors (found in saws, grinders, and routers) have higher surge than induction motors. Brushless tools tend to have softer starts.
Exemple de autonomie
If the tool runs continuously, about 1 hour. With typical intermittent use (trigger pulled 30% of the time), expect 3–4 hours of active work. The real constraint is the 1,600 W surge rating needed for startup.
About 1.4 hours of charging — enough for 3–4 battery packs. This is the most efficient approach: use battery tools and charge packs from the station.
Considerente solare
- Solar is useful for recharging between uses on a jobsite. A 200 W panel can add significant runtime over a workday.
- For continuous heavy tool use, no portable station + solar combo will keep up — the battery is your primary resource.

Considerente de cumpărare
- If you run corded tools, prioritize surge/peak rating above all else. A 1,800 W continuous / 3,000 W+ surge station is the minimum for serious jobsite use.
- If you use battery tools, a smaller 300–500 Wh station with 300+ W of output is sufficient — you're just charging packs.
- Consider an expandable system if you need all-day jobsite power — you can add battery capacity as needed.
